Hartford, Vermont – Paul A. Betters, 52, died early Thursday morning, June 11, at his home in Hartford Village. He was born June 18, 1962 in Lebanon, NH the son of Barry K. and Eleanor Ann (Bettis) Betters. He grew up in Hartford and graduated from Hartford High School. During his high school years he worked part time after school at Blodgett's Supply. He attended Johnson State College and returned to Hartford where he worked for Pike Industries in Lebanon, NH. In the early 1980's while working nights at Split Ball Bearing in Lebanon, NH, Paul and some friends started doing small paving jobs during the day on the side. With some help from his parents he started PBI Paving. He operated the business from 1981 through 1991 when his father joined him and they changed the name to BBI Paving. They worked together to turn BBI in to a successful business until it was sold at 2004. Most recently he worked for the Town of Norwich in the Highway Department.
Paul always loved music and was a great drummer, playing for several area bands. He also enjoyed fishing especially the trips he took with his crew and family to Booth Bay Harbor Maine. He liked riding his Harley Davidson and loved spending time with his friends, his dogs and his family.
He was predeceased by his mother, Eleanor who died September 2, 1995.
He is survived by his three sons, Nathaniel K. Betters and his wife Erin Betters of Bethel, VT, Barry K Betters II of Portsmouth, NH, Justin A. Betters of Lebanon, NH, a grandson, Aldyn Betters and granddaughter, Lillianna Babcock both of Bethel, VT his father, Barry Betters of Hartford, VT, sister, Ann Betters of Hartford, VT, his dog Daisy and many uncles, aunts and cousins.
A graveside service, presided over by Janice Chilek, will be held Tuesday, June 16, at 1PM in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in White River Jct., Vermont.
