White River Junction, VT - Pamela Jo Child (Pam), age 76, died peacefully at her home in White River Junction on Wednesday, June 18, 2025. After a brave and resilient battle with lung cancer, Pam died surrounded by friends and family and showered with love.
Pam was born on February 3, 1949, in Denver, CO, to Victor E. and Nancy (Loker) Yeager. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Denver (1967) and attended Utah State University in Logan, UT. There she earned her bachelors in Library Science and met her future husband, Raymond L. Child.
Pam was a lifelong explorer who was always looking forward to her next adventure. She loved to travel, especially with Ray, and their two sons, Raymond Jr. (Jr) and Victor Buck (Buck). The Child Family spent their early years in Germany (1976-1989), where Ray was stationed with the Army. After his discharge, they moved to Berchtesgaden, Germany, for what Pam referred to as 'the golden years.' They spent those golden years skiing, hiking, and traveling through Europe in their camper van, while sometimes (simultaneously) enjoying a beer with friends. Berchtesgaden remained a home in Pam's heart throughout her life.
The Child Family moved to Omaha, NE, in 1989 before returning to the mountains of Pine, CO, in 1997. Pam nurtured her curiosity and love for learning as a librarian with the US Department of Defense, the University of Nebraska Omaha, and the Bemis Public Library in Littleton, CO. After Ray passed away in 2015, Pam spent time in Utah, Washington, Florida, and Vermont to be close to family. Nothing gave her more joy than watching her grandsons, Logan (16), Cody (13), and Caleb (9), play sports and laugh together.
At every step of her journey, Pam made lasting friendships that surrounded her with love, support, and joy. Pam enjoyed walking on the beach, reading murder mysteries, and watching baseball. She loved hot dogs, lobster rolls, Frito pie, and a good gin and tonic. Pam always kept the magic of Christmas alive. The bell never stopped ringing for Pam, as she remained a true believer in Santa until the day she died.
Pam is survived by her son, JR, and his wife, Tiffany, and grandsons Logan and Cody of Draper, UT; her son, Buck, and his wife, Mara, and grandson Caleb of Norwich, VT; her sister, Nancy Anderson of Windsor, CO; her brother, Brad Yeager of Aurora, CO; and several beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews and their children. Pam was predeceased by her husband, Ray; her parents, Victor and Nancy Yeager; and her brother, Scott Yeager.
Pam's friendships span multiple countries and continents, and she will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her. Shortly before Pam passed away, when her family wished her peace, she shared that, "I have more than peace; I have joy."
The Child Family will hold a small funeral service at 2pm on Friday, June 27, at the Norwich Congregational Church at 15 Church Street, Norwich, VT 05055.
