Oliver C. Thurston

White River Jct., VT- Oliver C. Thurston, 80, a long time resident of White River Jct. died Wednesday March 21 at the Rutland Regional Medical Center in Rutland, VT.

He was born on January 18, 1932 in Worcester, MA, the son of Oliver and Florence (Tompson) Thurston. He attended school in Pomfret, before leaving in 1950 to join the Army and serve his country in the Korean Conflict. Eighteen months after entering the service Oliver contracted polio at which time he was retired from the military. Upon returning he received training in electric motor repair in South Burlington, VT. On August 3, 1952 he married Marie Pecor in Hartford, VT. Oliver was employed for many years at Springfield Bryant as a machinist.

Oliver loved to play cribbage with friends and also enjoyed playing pool, woodworking, camping, cros-stich, and most of all spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Thurston of White River Jct., VT, two sons, James Thurston of Barre, VT and Michael Thurston of White River Jct., VT, three granddaughters, Elizabeth, Jacquelyn and Christy, two grandsons, Ryan and James, three sisters, Gleniss Bartlett of Wilder, VT, Phyllis Warner of Woodstock, VT and Beverly Mandigo of Newport, NH,

Friends may call on Monday March 26 at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct., VT from 11AM-1PM. A memorial service will follow at 1PM. Reception at Post #22 Lebanon, Legion from 2-4 PM The Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct., VT has been entrusted with arrangements.
