Brownsville, VT- Oliver Henson, Jr., 77, died Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.

Oliver was born June 21, 1947, in Baltimore, MD to Oliver Henson, Sr. and Daisy Henson. He attended the local schools and graduated from Baltimore High School. After high school, he proudly served in the US Navy in Vietnam.

In 1974, Oliver married Janet Jager in Patapsco State Park after meeting at North Arundel Hospital where they both worked.

Shortly after having their second son, they decided they wanted to move to Vermont to raise their children. Initially they moved to Windsor, VT, where son number three was born and two years later to Brownsville, VT. There, Oliver built and wired their new home. He enjoyed working with his hands (he often jokingly referred to himself an "expert" handyman), and always loved being able to help family and friends with odd jobs which speaks to his generous spirit.

Oliver worked as a respiratory therapist, at the VA hospital in White River Junction, for 20 years before going back to school for his BSN and then on to DHMC as a registered nurse. He retired from Springfield Hospital as a Medical Applications Specialist in 2013. Oliver was always happiest when he was being active!  He enjoyed kayaking, canoeing, racket ball, pickleball, and biking. Oliver was passionate about playing tennis and played for 30 years several times a week with his good friends. He spent time as a basketball coach at Albert Bridge School in Brownsville while his youngest son was playing the game there.

Oliver was predeceased by both parents and his siblings, Raleigh Henson, Melvin Henson, and Ruby (Henson) Wiggins.

Oliver's family was the center of his universe.  His memory will be kept alive by his loving wife, Janet, of 50 years; son Colin Henson, his wife Lauren and their children Bryce and Nora, of Sudbury, MA; son Adam Henson and his wife Bernadette of West Orange, NJ; son Seth Henson and his wife Suntarin of Lebanon, NH. He also leaves behind his brother, Jerry Henson of LaFollette, TN, and sister, Ruth also of Lafollette, TN. His absence will be profoundly missed by family, friends and community.
