Obituary

White River Jct., VT – Norman H. McIntyre, Sr., 74, died Saturday September 11th at the Greater Baltimore-Washington Medical Center.

He was born September 30, 1935 in Hubbardton, VT a son of Harry and Thelma Doris (Parks) McIntyre. Upon graduating from West Rutland High School he attended the University of Vermont where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Agricultural Science. He then worked for a time with the Farmer's Home Administration before beginning his teaching career. He first taught in Barton, VT and then in South Royalton. While in South Royalton he spent summers at the University of Wisconsin until earning his Master's Degree also in Agricultural Science. He then taught at Theford and later Hartford before taking a brief sabbatical in the early 1980's to work as Associate Director of Research for Animal Science at Dartmouth College. He returned to teaching at Hartford where he finished his career at the Hartford Area Career and Technology Center. Norm was married to Shirley Rowe August 5, 1984 in White River Jct., VT where they have lived since.

Norm was a member and trustee of the Greater Hartford United Church of Christ, Past Master of the Free & Accepted Masons Rising Sun Lodge #7 and a member of the International Order of Odd Fellows Royalton Lodge #74 both in South Royalton as well as a Past King Lion of the South Royalton Lions. He was very active in the B.P.O.Elks Lodge 1541 in Hartford where he held many positions locally and on a state and national level including Past Exalted Ruler, District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler and as a Judge of the National Ritual contest.

He is predeceased by a son Norman H. McIntyre Jr., a sister Doris Chartier and his first wife Colleen McIntyre.

He is survived by his wife Shirley of White River Jct., a daughter Goldina McIntyre of Lebanon and her best friend Ginny Harrington, a granddaughter Elizabeth McIntyre of Aiken, SC; four step daughters Lisa Delagato of Bethel, VT, Laura McClay of Sharon, VT, Linda Gilbert of White River Jct. and Leslie Rogers of Stockbridge, VT; ten step grandchildren and a step great grandson; a sister Linda Splatt of Bomoseen, VT and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct., VT Friday from 1-3 and 6-8. A funeral service will be held at the Greater Hartford United Church of Christ at 3PM on Saturday.
