Wilder, Vermont - Nora M Hickey, 89, at Mt. Ascutney Hospital in Windsor, VT, Thursday afternoon, September 8, 2016 after a long battle with cancer, passed peacefully on September 8, 2016 at Mt. Ascutney Hospital & Health Center. Nora was born in Bethel, Vermont on December 4, 1926 the daughter of Nicholas and Evelyn (Shea) Alonzo. She resided in the Upper Valley most of her life. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great, great grandmother. Nora is survived by three daughters and one son: Cathy LaPlante-Kulig, Shirley Miller, Linda Durkee. She has seven grandchildren: Mary Audette, Candice Gates, Joseph Hickey IV, Clinton LaPlante Jr, Allan LaPlante, Shane LaPlante, Jimmy LaPlante (pre-deceased) and 21 great grandchildren as well as 23 great, great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother, Evelyn Starr and her husband Joseph M. Hickey Jr. Nora's career consisted mostly of taking care of the sick or elderly working at the Veteran's Administration Hospital, Dartmouth Hitchcock Hospital, Alice Peck day Hospital, several nursing homes and the Visiting Nurses Association.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday afternoon and evening, September 14 at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct., VT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday morning, September 15th at 11AM at St. Anthony's Church in White River Jct., VT. Burial will follow in the Lady of Our Angles Cemetery in Randolph, VT.
