Lebanon, NH – Niki L. Glanz, a dedicated mother, educator, researcher, and author, passed away peacefully in the late hours of Tuesday, September 3, 2024, after a brave battle with illness.
Niki was born in Detroit, Michigan, the oldest of three children of Edward F. and Phyllis (Davis) Glanz. She grew up in Grosse Pointe, MI, and graduated from Grosse Pointe High School South. Her passion for education led her to Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, where she earned her first degree. Niki continued her academic journey at the University of Pittsburgh, receiving a master's degree. She then spent time teaching at high schools in Evanston and in La Paz, Bolivia. After moving back to the States, Niki completed her Doctorate in Education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She then became a professor of education at Augusta State University in Augusta, Georgia.
In a significant career shift, Niki later worked in financial services as a financial advisor and manager of various financial portfolios. In Niki's later years, she devoted herself to research and writing. Her book, Memories to Momentum: Stories of Looking Back & Living Forward, published in 2018, was a great personal accomplishment.
A deeply spiritual individual, Niki was committed to the Bahá'í Faith and held a strong belief in the core concept of "unity in diversity." She was an active member of Literature Lovers, a Jewish book club, and various race unity groups. Niki was a lifelong outdoors enthusiast whose appreciation for natural beauty was contagious.
Niki was also a very devoted mother and grandmother who near the end of her life loved hearing stories about her granddaughter, Ele, who currently attends the University of Miami in Florida.
Niki was predeceased by brother Erik "Rick" Glanz of Prescott, AZ.
She is survived by her daughter Joy Sellers Marschall and her husband, Mark, of Mariposa, CA; son Greg Sellers and his wife, Jen, of Middlebury, VT; granddaughter Eleanna Guinn Sellers of Middlebury, VT; sister Wendolyn Herman of Home, WA; as well as cousins and a niece.
