Bennington, VT – Nicholas Paul "Nic" Couture, 70, died Tuesday morning, September 26, 2023 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT. He was born December 7, 1952, in Lebanon, NH the son of Oswald J. and Sadie P. (Mower) Couture.

Nic grew up in White River Jct., VT and graduated from Hartford High School in 1972. He was honored as the top student in his Automotive Trade Class and was given the award at the graduation ceremony. He absolutely loved cars and working on them. Nic was known to always know where to locate hard-to-find parts and had an incredible memory for remembering where old cars were located around the area. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge and talents with others. Long-term friendships were developed because of this trait, one of which was his relationship with John Smith that began when John bought a Mustang and Nic taught him some mechanic basics. For a short time, Nic worked for Hot Top Paving and did some construction work in and around the Upper Valley region. He was part of the crew that transformed the old Windsor Prison into senior and affordable housing units.

Nic lived at Mellishwood in Woodstock, VT. Kinds acts of removing snow from other residents' cars, helping carry groceries, walking dogs, and basically just looking out for many of the older residents, quickly made him many friends. It was just recently that he moved to Bennington, VT.

Nic is survived by his sister, Sheila Adams, and her husband, Aaron, and their two sons and granddaughter of Hartland, VT, a brother, Ray Couture and his wife, Dawn, and their two sons of Hartland, VT, grandnieces and grandnephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be held from 1-3pm on Sunday, October 1 at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct., VT. A funeral service will be held at 11am on Tuesday, October 3, at the funeral home with burial to follow in the Hartland Village Cemetery in Hartland, VT.
