Thetford, VT- It is with deep sadness that we announce that Murray Dodd Hill Jr., 59, died in his sleep Thursday, January 18, 2018 at Mt. Ascutney Hospital, following a courageous nine-month battle with brain cancer. Murray met his illness and its end as he lived, in dignity and peace.
Murray was born on March 3, 1958 in Boston, Massachusetts to Murray Dodd Hill and Prudence Chingo Hill. He grew up in Arlington, Massachusetts and later moved with his mother to North Berwick, Maine, where he helped build his family home. Murray was a talented craftsman, as well as a certified Volvo master auto technician for over twenty-five years before becoming one of Ebay's first merchants. For years Murray operated his own antique business and spent many happy hours traveling the countryside in search of interesting treasures. He loved uncovering rare and wonderful items, and educating us about their history. His spirit, knowledge and wisdom will live on in his son, and in all who knew his friendship.
Murray is survived by his wife Sarah and their son Noah of Thetford, Vermont; sister Prudence Carty and her husband Richard of Glastonbury, Connecticut; brother Bill Hill and his wife Debbie of Stoneham, Massachusetts; father and mother in-law David and Gail Smith of Thetford, Vermont, and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents and elder relatives.
Per Murray's wishes there will be no funeral services, but a gathering for a celebration of his life will be held for family and friends in the spring. Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction assisted with arrangements
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Murray's favorite local charity, the Upper Valley Humane Society.
