Obituary

Muriel M. Farrington, 83, of White River Junction, VT, died Monday, October 28, 2024.

Born in Hartford, CT to Frank Lee Magee, Jr. and Irene Skinner Magee, Muriel attended South Windsor, CT schools. She married Reginald Farrington and raised three children as an Army wife. Muriel was involved in the Officers' Wives Club, Daughters of the American Colonists, and Daughters of the American Revolution. She worked as an archaeologist in Virginia and on one project in Vermont as well as served on the Boards of The Archeological Society of Virginia and The Vermont Archeological Society. In 1978, she moved with her family to Vermont. While working full time, she obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of New Hampshire and her MBA from Plymouth State University. After working in IT for many years, she retired from Sassafras Software.

At 58, Muriel discovered the BMW motorcycle community, which quickly became her life's passion. Her adventures took her through all lower 48 states at least once, riding solo much of the time, and across Canada from Vancouver Island to Newfoundland, as well as The Isle of Man to attend the TT races, greatly enjoying the rides, the people and the sites. She accumulated nearly 425,000 miles over 24 years. She obtained many awards, among them the BMW Clubs International Council's Friend of the Marque. Muriel served as secretary of the national BMW Motorcycle Owners of America club for nine years and president of the BMW Motorcycle Owners of Vermont club for six. She was also a member of the BMW Riders Association, Yankee Beemers Motorcycle Club, Granite State BMW Riders, BMW Riders of Southern Maine and The Chain Gang, a virtual club. Muriel volunteered in numerous organizations, from Girl Scouts of America to church youth organizations to Southeastern Vermont Community Action and taught Bone Builders for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program for many years. She sang in several church choirs and was a charter member of the Hartford Historical Society.

Muriel will be missed by her family and many friends in the Upper Valley where she made her home for the past 46 years, as well as in the BMW motorcycle and Army communities across the country. Muriel is predeceased by her parents and her brother Frank Lee Magee, III. She is survived by her children, Elaine Farrington Johnson (Frank Moore), Norma (Ken) Schneiderman, and Ethan (Sandee) Farrington, grandson Matt (Ari) Leezer, granddaughter Lauren Farrington (Steven West), great grandson Finnley, sister Marcia Magee, brother Walter (Laurie) Magee, many nieces, nephews, cousins, longtime friend Chuck Otto (who introduced her to motorcycling), and many dear friends.

Special thanks go to the medical staff at Dartmouth Health and Bayada Home Health Care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either of these organizations, or the charity of your choice.

A gathering of Muriel's friends and family will be held at a later date. Muriel's cremains will be interred in her family plot in South Windsor at her family's convenience.
