Miriam E. Pitkin, 83, died Monday, February 18, 2013 on hospice care at Alice Peck Day Hospital. She was surrounded during her brief illness with love by friends and family.

Miriam was born December 7, 1929 in Charleston, ME to Lawrence and Geneva (Farmer) Higgins one of fifteen children. She graduated from Higgins Classical Institute in Charleston, ME. Miriam worked for many years in healthcare including Pierce's Nursing Home and settled in at Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital retiring after more than thirty years with them. She was married to her beloved husband Charles Pitkin in 1956

Miriam was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in West Lebanon, and was an avid gardener, she enjoyed working the soil to benefit her family and all those she could share in her labors.

She is predeceased by a son Charles Pitkin Jr.

Miriam is survived by her beloved husband of fifty six years. Charles Pitkin Sr. of Enfield, NH three daughters, Barbara Cannon of Langdon, NH, Julie Miller and Aura-Lee Nicodemus both of Enfield and their spouses numerous grandchildren and many great-grandchildren

A memorial service will be held at Mascoma Lake at a later date. Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction, VT assisted with arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice or a kind deed is performed to one in need in honor of her.
