Obituary

White River Jct., VT – Michael James Whitcomb, 59, died at his home on Saturday, July 13, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born on November 10, 1964, to Jon and Linda (Blaney) Whitcomb.

He spent his youngest years in Littleton, NH until his father's career as a firefighter moved them to Hanover. Taking after his father, Michael was passionate in his lifelong career of helping people. Some, but not all, of his hard-earned titles were Police Officer, Fire Captain, Master Diver, Advanced EMT and many more. He had a strong presence in the community, a big heart, and was very active in the Upper Valley Suicide Prevention Group.

His passion for taking care of people didn't stop there, as he also enjoyed building homemade jewelry boxes and wooden pens for his family. In his free time, he could be found on the water, boating, or deer hunting with his sons. His love for music shined brightly with his singing and dancing, although if you knew him, you know that was not his strongest talent. However, if you had a chance to see his Christmas village every year, you would be impressed.

After retirement, Michael rekindled his love from 20 years prior, with Nicole Gosselin, and in 2015, they married in Raleigh, NC. They enjoyed their quiet life on Kerr Lake until they moved back to Hartford to be closer to family in 2017.

He is survived by his wife Nicole; children Christopher (Katie) Whitcomb of Hartland, VT, Abby (Frank) Carissimo of Manassas, VA, and Patrick (Summer) Whitcomb of West Hartford, VT; siblings J. Christopher (Rose) Whitcomb of Springfield, MO and Kerry Lyden of West Lebanon, NH; former brother in law John Lyden of Enfield, NH; grandchildren Autumn and Brody, with another grandbaby on the way; as well as nieces, nephews, and many other family members and friends.

A visitation will be held on Monday, July 22, 2024 from 5-8 pm at Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction, VT and a Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at 10:30 am at St. Denis Catholic Church in Hanover, NH. Interment will be private.
