Obituary

Austin, TX – Michael David Temple, 66, died May 8, 2026, after a 17-year battle with various cancers, with his loving family by his side. He recently celebrated his 39th wedding anniversary and 66th birthday while in the hospital.

He was born May 2, 1960, a son of Richard and Rose (McKenney) Temple. Mike grew up in White River Jct., graduating from Hartford High School Class of 1978. After receiving his bachelor’s degree from the University of Vermont, he attended Emory University in Atlanta, GA where he earned his MBA from the Goizueta Business School in 1985. While at Emory, he met Anne Peeples and they were married April 25, 1987. After graduation, he began working at a consulting firm in Atlanta that was a subsidiary of First Interstate Bank of California. After the consulting firm closed, he took a position with First Interstate Bank in Los Angeles and received promotions that moved him to San Diego and Portland, OR before moving to head up the Seattle office. Looking to move back to the East Coast, he took a position with AmSouth Bank in Birmingham in 1996, which later became Regions Bank. His final accomplishment as an executive vice president at Regions was to create and run the Corporate Banking Real Estate Group for several years before retiring in 2015 due to disabilities associated with his lymphoma.

Michael had a keen ear and was a skilled musician from an early age. Music played a large role in his life, including playing in many bands throughout the years. He played a number of instruments, often self-taught, and recorded and mixed both vocal and instrumental tracks for a variety of artists at his home studio.

Whatever his latest hobby, Michael took it very seriously, researching the topic and developing his skills to the fullest. He enjoyed competitive shooting, including pistols at the local range and competing in sporting clays tournaments, winning his first Gamaliel Cup while living in Alabama in 2007. He also enjoyed racing both motorcycles and sports cars at the Atlanta Motorsports Park and Barber Motorsports Park while living in Alabama.

Mike used his many skills and life experiences to volunteer for organizations and causes that aligned with his core values. While in Alabama, he served on the board of the Greater Birmingham YMCA and received their highest honor, the Red Triangle Award, in recognition of his years of volunteering and outstanding achievements.

He leaves his wife of 39 years, Anne Temple and son, Alex Temple, both of Austin, TX; a brother, Patrick Temple (Linda) of North Hartland, VT; nephew Zachary Temple (Stephanie) of White River Jct., VT and a large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins as well as many close friends, classmates and colleagues.

A graveside service will be held at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in White River Jct., VT on Friday, June 19th at 10AM.

Mike’s family is thankful for the many warm thoughts, kind words, and many prayers they have received throughout his years of health struggles. Condolences to his family may be made in an online guestbook at knightfuneralhomes.com.
