Clarksville, NH- Merle T. "Sam" Withington, 86, former resident of North Hartland, VT, died Friday, November 13, 2020 at the Coos County Nursing Hospital in West Stewartstown, NH.

Sam was born May 25, 1934 in Lebanon, NH a son of Philo and Vivian (White) Withington. He grew up in North Hartland at 23 he joined the Army and proudly served his country. He later drove truck for Tom Moran Trucking, Vermont Log Cabin and last for Burlington Foreign Car Parts.

Sam loved square dancing, enjoyed Western movies and music, television and had a special place in his heart for his dog Shelby.

He is predeceased by two sons Timothy Withington and Kenneth "Jake" Withington; a grandson Brian Jaycox; a brother Richard Withington and a sister Ruth Shumway.

Sam is survived by four daughters, Jean Walker of East Randolph, VT, Barbara Jaycox of Clarksville, NH, Sandra Cassidy of Bradford, VT and Patricia Amidon of South Londonderry, VT; ten grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and a sister Janice Nadeau of Quechee, VT.

A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in the Hartland Village Cemetery. Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction has been entrusted with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed in an online guestbook at www.knightfuneralhome.com .
