IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Melodie 'Mel'
Oronte
October 21, 1958 – July 16, 2024
Wilder, VT- Melodie 'Mel' Oronte, age 65, died in the early morning hours of Tuesday, July 16th, 2024, at her home after a long road of health issues and dialysis.
Mel was born October 21, 1958, in Lebanon, NH to Marion (Day) Ducharme. She grew up as the youngest of six sisters, who were raised by a single mother with loving assistance from their beloved grandmother, Edith Alice Day. She graduated in 1977 from Hartford High School. Shortly after high school, she began working in the Upper Valley, most notably at Purity Supreme, where she forged countless friendships that would last the rest of her life.
In 1985, Mel and Dave welcomed their only daughter, Maegan. She later married David Oronte on Christmas Eve of 1989, which they were grateful to celebrate the anniversary of with family and friends every year.
In 1997, Mel suffered a debilitating aneurysm, which left her permanently disabled, but did not affect her work ethic nor sense of humor. Until the day she died, she steadfastly assisted in childcare, pet care, and cleaning houses. She will be remembered for her perseverance and reliability, and never ever giving up. As many times as life knocked her down, she was always known to get back up, even stronger.
Holding babies and caring for pets brought Mel the greatest joys of her life. She enjoyed a good party, and the company of longtime friends. In Mel's own words, "thanks for all the fun and happiness." She wished to thank every single person who helped her live an independent life as her illnesses progressed over the years.
She leaves behind her husband of 42 years, Dave Oronte of Wilder, her daughter, Maegan Berry, her husband, Jason Berry, and a grandson, Lucas Berry. Survivors also include her siblings, Peggy Broughton, Debbie Doubleday, Rennie Chase, and Linda Ducharme, as well as many special friends. She was predeceased by a sister, Sandy Norton.
