Obituary

Quechee, Vermont – Maynard "Butch" Eugene Boutin, 81, died Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in White River Junction, Vermont, surrounded by family.

Butch was born on January 5, 1942, in Lebanon, New Hampshire, son of Eugene and Mary (Labounty) Boutin. He grew up in White River Junction and graduated from Hartford High School in 1960. Following graduation, he enlisted in the Army and served in Wiesbaden, Germany, where he met and married Ursula Wenicker and where their daughter, Nancy, was born. After serving in Germany, the family moved to California and then New Mexico where he was stationed until his honorable discharge in 1966. The family then returned to Vermont and settled in Wilder, Vermont, where they welcomed their son, Neal. Butch made a career at Twin State Cable TV, ultimately becoming manager of the business until his retirement. Butch later moved to Quechee, Vermont.

Butch was a member of the Windsor American Legion. He enjoyed gardening, fishing on his boat, crossword puzzles, building furniture, and reading  mysteries. Butch enjoyed football. He would watch high school, college, or any of the football leagues and was a devoted Patriots fan. His greatest joy came from spending time with family, especially Sunday night family dinners, and taking care of his cat, Cora.

Butch was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Punt. He is survived by two children: a daughter, Nancy Burke and her husband Nick of Wilder, Vermont, and a son, Neal Boutin and his wife Jennifer of Harrodsburg, Kentucky; seven grandchildren: Matthew Maville and his wife Dana Edmunds, Olivia Walker and her husband Justin Walker, Ania Boutin, Riley Boutin, Lily Burke, Sam Burke and Grace Burke; two great-grandchildren; two sisters: Claudette Phelps and Connie Norton; and three half-sisters: Donna Casa, Brenda Moore and Carol Bean. He is also survived by his friend of many years, Joanne Davis.

A graveside service will be held at at 11am on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Lebanon, NH. Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction, VT has been entrusted with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed in an online guestbook at www.knightfuneralhomes.com.

The family is very appreciative of the outstanding care Butch received from the medical staff during his stay at the Veterans Administration Medical Center. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans Administration Medical Center Activity Fund, 215 North Main Street, White River Junction, VT 05009.
