Maxine H. Wright's Obituary

Maxine H. Wright, 91, died peacefully at her home on August 6, 2018 in White River Jct.
She was born on August 12,1926 in Meriden, NH, daughter of Harry and Mabel (Reynolds)
Harford. Growing up during the depression was a difficult time and the family moved often
before settling in Windsor, VT. The Harford family lived a simple life, but they were very proud
people who always made the best of tough times. Maxine graduated from Windsor High School
in 1945 and worked as a bookkeeper at Cones Blanchard Machine Shop in Windsor, VT and
then at the Lyric Theater in White River Jct.
On June 24,1950, Maxine married Harold B. Wright at the First Baptist Church in
Windsor and they moved into the family home on Maplerow Farm in White River Jct. to start
their family. As their family grew, Maxine kept very busy chaperoning field trips, baking bread,
pies, cookies and cakes, tending flower gardens, canning vegetables, and so much more. Even
with four young children at home, she continued to work part time after the kids went to bed.
She always supported her husband, children, and grandchildren; assuring her grandchildren
that "Grandma is always here."
Maxine was an active member of the White River Jct. United Methodist Church for many years. She helped organize and fundraise for the Junior Choir. In the 1970's, Maxine established the church suppers that have become the current famous turkey suppers. Each month she would
make numerous phone calls to members soliciting donations of $1, a pound of coffee or butter,
or help during the meal; believing that everybody could help and making everybody feel needed.
She organized the church auctions and hunters' breakfasts as well as selling refreshments at
the Shrine Game. She was a member of the Woman's Group, Steeple Committee and Elevator
Committee as well as joining her husband on all other church committees. For many years,
Maxine organized the receptions for families following funerals.
Maxine enjoyed spending time with other young mothers at the Young Mothers' Club.
Maxine and Harold along with Pete and Theresa Aher founded the Hartford Booster Club.
Many happy memories were made at the Annual Postmasters' Conventions followed by
a trip to a camp on Joe's Pond. Maxine would pack up the family station wagon with food,
bedding and six active children. Maxine and Harold enjoyed travelling-visiting the 48 contiguous
states and thirteen countries. They attended the American Jersey Cattle Association Annual
Meeting in a different location each year beginning in 1972, including driving across country to
San Diego in 2016 and visiting Canton, Ohio just over a month ago, always accompanied by
children and grandchildren.
Maxine is survived by her husband, Harold; children Gail Wright, Harold Wright Jr.,
Richard Wright, Ann Cerasoli, and Donna Wright, all of White River Jct. Grandchildren Richard
Wright II (Wendie), Abby Benoit (Joseph), Hannah Cerasoli and Alicia Cerasoli. Great
grandchildren Ezra and Ethan Benoit and Molly and Weston Wright and her sister, Alice Greene.
She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Maxine is predeceased by their son, Bruce Wright; siblings Margaret, Louise and Herbert
Harford.
Maxine faced many hardships in life but was always strong and resilient. She always
had time to play a game of cards with the kids, pack a family picnic on a Sunday afternoon or
enjoy an ice cream cone. She will always be remembered for her strong will and sweet, kind
smile.
The family is very appreciative of the care Maxine received from first Dr Royal Whitney
and then Dr. Ernst Oidtmann for the last 68 years. A very special thank you to Nancy and Pat
for helping Maxine be comfortable and stay in her home to the end and to VNH Hospice.
