Obituary

Bradford, VT - Maurice (Morey) V. Weiss, 87, of Bradford, Vermont, was taken into the arms of his Savior Jesus, on Friday, February 10 th , 2023, at The Margaret Pratt Community in Bradford, VT.

Morey was born on a farm in Valparaiso, Indiana. He was the youngest of ten children born to Carl and Mary Weiss. They were a close-knit family, and that closeness continues on today through the generations that follow.

Morey was always independent. When he was a very young boy, still living on the farm, it excited him to go deep into the woods by himself, intentionally getting lost to see if he could find his way back home.

Morey attended Elgin High School (IL) and excelled in basketball. He received a full, four-year basketball scholarship to Monmouth College (IL) although he didn't take advantage of the opportunity and only completed part of his freshmen year of college. Later in life when he could no longer shoot baskets, he left his basketball on a court in hopes that it eventually found its way into the hands of a child who loved the game as much as he had.

Morey was a salesman most of his life and at times worked his way up the corporate ladder. He would say that whenever you go above and beyond the expectations and requirements of a job that you will always be head and shoulders above the rest. His final job, while in his eighties, was working for Stagecoach bringing people to and from their appointments and activities that they could no longer manage on their own.

Morey was complementary, kind, funny, loving, strong willed, content with the simple things in life but best of all he was our Dad and we loved him. The greatest gift he gave to his children was instilling the importance of attending church. It pointed the way to our salvation. Morey prayed every night over his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren by name, all of whom he loved so dearly. His Apostolic church family loved and supported him through the years and remained an important part of his life.

Morey is survived by his beloved, brother Paul. He leaves behind his children Bonnie, Brenda (Bob), Morey (Bobbi), Mindy (widow of Jeff, his youngest son who predeceased him in 2018), Eva (Bruce), and Sheila (Don).

Sincere gratitude to Bayada Hospice and the Margaret Pratt Community, who walked alongside Morey and his daughters. We could not have done it easily without sensitivity, patience, and support.
