Obituary

Wilder, VT – Maureen Lucille Sullivan, 93, died on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at the Jack Byrne Center for Palliative and Hospice Care in Lebanon, NH. Maureen was born on March 25, 1932, in Melrose, MA and grew up on her aunt and uncle's dairy farm in the Lancaster, NH area. Her aunt Anna and uncle Cliff Ingerson stepped into the role of loving parents, and she thought of them as mom and dad and their children as siblings throughout her life. Early on, she felt drawn to a career in nursing and after high school entered the work study program at Concord State Hospital.

She met Donald R. Sullivan at a dance and the two married on January 2, 1954. While their four children were young, he stayed home with the children during the winter months and Maureen took on extra nursing shifts. Over the course of her working career, she worked at numerous hospitals, including Dartmouth Hitchcock and the White River VA Medical Center as well as nursing homes in the Upper Valley.

In the early 1960s, Donald noticed a 96-acre property in Norwich that was perfect for the family of 6 and they moved from their mobile home in Bellows Falls. Maureen loved having space for a large vegetable garden and potato patch, dairy cows, and felt at home on the farm. Maureen continued to keep up the property and gardens after Donald died in 1989 with the help of Richard Ingerson, her uncle's nephew, and her grandchildren, but about 12 years ago downsized to less acreage in Wilder.

Maureen is survived by four children Michael Sullivan and wife Betsy of the Bay Area, CA, Donna Sullivan of White River Junction, Pat Carter of Crestview, FL, and Linda White and husband Rick of Norwich, VT; four grandchildren Todd, Justine, Elva, and Ethan; three great grandchildren Jesse, Jake, and Juliette; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Donald, parents Anna and Cliff Ingerson, aunt Mary Jane, and six siblings Cliff, Jr., Roger, Jim, Roland, Martha, and Nancy.

A celebration of Maureen's life will be held, for information please call her son Michael 925-305-6725.
