BROWNSVILLE, VT
Matthew W. Harrington, 59, a longtime resident passed away unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon, March 13 at his home in Brownsville.
He was born August 4, 1952 in Windsor the son of Paul M. and Ovis (Hammond) Harrington. He received his schooling in Brownsville and Windsor. He graduated from Windsor High School in 1970. He attended New Hampton Prep School in New Hampton, NH and later Castleton State College, Lyndon State College and the University of Vermont. He married Shannon Hull on September 5, 1981 in Brownsville. Matt had been employed at Sturm Ruger and Company in Newport, NH for the past thirty one years. He also owned and operated Harrington Property Management in Brownsville with his two sons.
He was an active supporter and member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor, and was currently president of the Brownsville Cemetery Association. Matt was a proud member and advocate of Alcoholics Anonymous and had assisted many members in the program throughout the Upper Valley. He was a weekly volunteer at the Southeast Correctional Facility in Windsor for the past nineteen years.
Matt was a strong supporter of the Windsor Athletic Program. He had coached Windsor Youth Basketball and Windsor High School Varsity Baseball for many years. He also coached many winning baseball seasons for American Legion Post #25. He had played for the "Wild Bunch" Men's Regional Softball Program for many years.
Matt was a giver and whatever he was involved with, he gave 100%.

He was an avid gardener and enjoyed maintaining his property at the Harrington Homestead. He was an avid New York Yankees fan. He was fond of walking his dogs and Matt's greatest joy in life was spending time with his family.
He was predeceased by his parents, and two sisters Jean Marden in 1985 and Shawnee Gribbon in 1995.
Survivors include his wife, Shannon Harrington, two sons, Brendan "BJ" Harrington and his wife, Lindsay and Daniel Harrington and his wife, Emma, all of Brownsville, four brothers, Paul J. Harrington of Windsor, Thomas P. Harrington of Ascutney, Peter M. Harrington of New York State, Andrew J. Harrington of Brownsville, three sisters, Joan Grant of Sutton, MA, Janet Moscarillo of Potomac, MD and Kathleen Harrington of Ohio, several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor Friday, March 16 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 17 at 10:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor. A reception for family and friends will follow in Fellowship Hall at the church. Committal services will be held at 2:00 PM in the Brownsville Cemetery in West Windsor.
