Mary E. Tardie - White River Jct., VT – Mary E. Tardie, 85, died surrounded by her family on Sunday June 17th at her home in White River Jct.

Mary was born a daughter of Arthur and Susan (Boyd) Longley on October 26, 1926 in Rutland, VT. At a young age her family purchased a farm in Pomfret, VT. Mary worked on the farm until beginning her career in the grocery business at Aher Brother's in Hartford Village. She later worked at the First National in Lebanon and then at the IGA in Wilder for many years. After retiring from the grocery business Mary became an Avon Lady, selling Avon products for over 35 years.

She was married to Rodney Tardie in 1958 in Canaan, NH. They made their home in Wilder for several years and have lived in their home in White River Jct. for the past five decades. While in Wilder, Mary had large vegetable and flower gardens. Later in life she enjoyed making crafts and baking for her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Rodney of White River Jct.; two sons Adrian Tardie and his wife Paula of Wilder, VT and Vernon Clifford and his wife Tina of Pomfret; a daughter Elizabeth Johnson Sheffield and her husband Douglas of Salt Lake City, Utah; six grandchildren, Christopher and Charlie Johnson, Tadd Tardie, and Nathan, Shane and Amber Clifford; several great-grandchildren and ten brothers and sisters, Sam Longley, Anna Forest, Beatrice Robinson, Neola Clay, Howell Longley, Loretta Earl, Fostina Barrett, Layton Longley, Raymond Longley and Bonnie Drop as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mary was predeceased by a grandson Oak Clifford.

Calling hours will be held at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct. Wednesday June 20th from 6-8PM. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday June 21st at 11AM with burial following in the West Lebanon Cemetery.
