IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary M.
Murray
April 26, 1920 – September 23, 2020
Mary Murray, age 100, was welcomed into the presence of The Lord on Sept. 23, 2020. She was born Mary Adelia Mahan on April 26, 1920 in Carsins Run, MD to James A. and Grace L. Streett Mahan. She was born into a family that would grow to 7 girls and 7 boys. Mary was 4 th from the youngest.
As a teenager, Mary took time off from school to work and help her mother in their home. This was among the first of many times she would put her loved ones before herself. After graduating from high school, she moved to Windsor, VT where she worked at the Goodyear plant for 36 years. In March 1950, she married Wallace D. Murray of Milan, Quebec. In 1966, six years after their only child Richard was born, Wally passed away. Never to remarry and trusting God, Mary dedicated herself to making a living and raising her son as a single parent.
A long-time member of Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Windsor, Mary sang in the choir, held the Treasurer's office and was a very active participant in the fellowship there. She lived in Windsor and Ascutney, VT until 2003 when she moved to Derry, NH to live with her son Richard and his family.
Mary loved to travel, cross-stitch, cook, do crosswords, attend church, and be with her family. She was very fond of her daughter-in-law, Sheila who cared for her at home until her death. She reminisced of her 13 siblings, and though Mary's memory failed her during her final years, she never forgot how much she loved each and every one of them. Mary often spoke of them by name and told countless family anecdotes to the many people fortunate enough to meet her.
Left to honor Mary and remember her love are her son Richard A. and his wife Sheila Perkins Murray of Derry, NH; her grand-daughter Julia E. Murray of Forest, VA; her youngest brother Stanley C. Mahan and his wife Jean of Bel Air, MD; her daughter-in-law's family, Edward and Ruth Perkins, and Julie Perkins of Windsor, VT, Robert and Susan Perkins of Cornish, NH, and William Mangum of Orrington, ME; and many nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Wallace, her sisters Virginia, Florence, Esther, Alice, Laura, Doris, and her brothers Roy, Streett, Ted, Eddie, Floyd, and Russell.
Those who knew Mary will remember her as a kindhearted servant, generous, good-humored, and a testimony of contentment and steadfast faith in The Lord. Although she will be missed here on earth, we can rest in the knowledge that after 100 years, she has been warmly greeted by Jesus with widespread arms and the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant".
Romans 6:4-5: "We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his."
A private service and burial will be held in Windsor, VT at a date to be determined. A memorial service for extended family and friends may occur at a later date and will be thusly announced. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rockingham VNA-Hospice (NH) or the Alzheimer's Association.
