WEST WINDSOR VT

Mary Beardsley Fenn, 97, a longtime resident of West Windsor, died peacefully on Friday, September 11, 2015 at the Cedar Hill Continuing Care Community in Windsor Vermont.

She was born November 11, 1917 in Springfield, Vermont, the youngest daughter of Dr. William Henry and Anna Hartness Beardsley. She attended Springfield schools and graduated from Dana Hall School in Wellesley, MA and Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hill, MA.

On June 19, 1937 Mary married Francis T. Fenn, Jr. in Springfield, VT. The couple lived in West Hartford, Connecticut, where they raised three sons. Mary was active and involved in community affairs, volunteered at the Newington Childrens Hospital, and sang in the choir of Asylum Hill Church.

Mary and Fran moved to West Windsor, VT in 1969. A charter member of the West Windsor Historical Society, Mary wrote Parish and Town, The History of West Windsor, Vermont. She spent many years preserving the history of West Windsor. She privately published a book about her own life, The Curves in the Road, A Legacy from a Great Grandmother. She was an Incorporator of the New England Kurn Hattin Homes, a home/school for children at risk, where she served on its Development and Admissions Committees. Mary was an active member of the First Universalist Society of Hartland Four Corners. During her 55 years as a member of Alcoholics Anonymous she was always ready to share her experience strength and hope with others seeking sobriety. Mary loved her family and friends, and got great joy working in her gardens, walking, skiing and snowshoeing in the hills of Vermont.

In 2001 she was predeceased by her husband of 64 years. Mary is survived by three sons; Bill of Windsor, VT; Peter and his wife, Deborah, of Orchard Park, NY; and Roger and his wife Dorothy Chaisson, of Englewood, Florida and Prince Edward Island, Canada; three grandsons, two step granddaughters, and several great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. on the lawn of Mary's home located at 166 Jewett Road in West Windsor. The Rev. Paul Sawyer, Pastor of the First Universalist Church in Hartland Four Corners will officiate. A simple reception for family and friends will follow. There will be a private burial attended by family only. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that a donation be made to; New England Kurn Hattin Homes, PO Box 127, Westminster, VT, 05158 or to the West Windsor Historical Society, PO Box 12, Brownsville, VT 05037 or the First Universalist Church of Hartland Four Corners, PO Box 75, Hartland Four Corners, VT 05049.
