White River Junction, VT - On July 28, 2026, Mary Catherine Christie died peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones after a battle with cancer.
Mary was born in Hanover, New Hampshire on April 12, 1955, to parents Catherine Bradley and Gordon Fish. She grew up in Woodstock, Vermont. In her youth, Mary developed a love of nature and wildlife, an interest that she carried her whole life through well-tended plants and fully stocked bird feeders.
In 1978, she met Kevin “Coach” Christie at Christie’s Quechee Exxon, and the two quickly realized that their connection was something very special. They married on December 30, 1983, and were dedicated and loving partners and parents ever after.
Mary waitressed in multiple restaurants in the Upper Valley, served on the Board of Directors for the Hartford Teen Center and the Hartford Boys & Girls Club, and worked as a paraprofessional and substitute teacher for the Hartford School District.
Mary spent many years working as a manager of the women's clothing store, Clay’s, in Hanover and West Lebanon, New Hampshire. She took great pride in her work and loved helping her customers look and feel their best.
At home, Mary enjoyed cooking for her family, caring for her beloved pets, and playing card and word games with her family. Mary spent years perfecting a written recipe for her father-in-law’s Jamaican beef patties, much to the delight of her family and friends. She was a lover of language and vocabulary, and as such loved watching Wheel of Fortune and was a Scrabble enthusiast for many years. Her daughters fondly remember their summer vacations to York Beach, Maine.
Mary is survived by her husband, Kevin “Coach” Christie, of White River Junction, Vermont; her daughters, Amber Christie of California and Angela Christie of White River Junction; three siblings, Janet Reynolds and husband Robert of Virginia, David Fish of Oregon, and Jeffrey Fish of Tasmania; a large and loving extended Christie family; her best friend, Robin Gilstad; and other relatives, friends, and her cats, Peanut, Mac, and Cheese.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents and a son-in-law, Nathan Averill.
