LEBANON, NEW HAMPSHIRE
Mary Louise Brooks, 95, died September 13, 2010 at Hanover Terrace Healthcare in Hanover, New Hampshire.
She was born November 14, 1914 in Northfield Falls, Vermont, the daughter of James Henry and Jennie Louise (Duprey) Lafley. She attended the Northfield Schools. She went to work at Northfield Mills from 1935-1938,and then became a housekeeper from 1940 – 1942 in Middletown, New York. On September 5, 1942 she was married to Herbert George Brooks in Newark, New Jersey. They lived in Northfield until 1944 when they returned to Newark. In 1946 they moved to Wilder, Vermont for a short time before moving to Quechee, Vermont where they lived for over twenty years. In 1966 she became the cook at St. Anthony's Parish Rectory at which time they moved to White River Junction, Vermont. In 1968 she moved to Lebanon and went to work in Housekeeping and then Medical Records at Mary Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover until her retirement in 1977 at the age of 62.
Mary enjoyed traveling, crocheting and needlepoint, playing Bingo, and listening to her records and music. She was active in the American Legion, as the Trip Director for the Northfield Senior Center, and later enjoyed playing bingo at the Lebanon Senior Center.
She is predeceased by her husband Herbert George Brooks; and two brothers, Robert Lafley and Thomas "Babe" Lafley.
She is survived by five sons: George H. Brooks and wife Susan of Middletown, New York, James H. Brooks and wife Doris of Plainfield, NH, Elvan T. Brooks and wife Sue (Belva) of Cleveland, Tennessee, Edwin T. Brooks of Lebanon, New Hampshire and Wayne R. Brooks and wife Dorrie of Plainfield, New Hampshire; a daughter Elva L. Brooks of Christmas Valley, Oregon; several nieces, nephews , grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her former daughter-in-law and close friend Jean Brooks of White River Jct., VT
There will be no calling hours or funeral per her request.
