WINDSOR, VT
Mary Jane Bennett, 79, a longtime resident of Windsor, passed away Thursday morning, February 24 at the Mt. Ascutney Hospital in Windsor.
She was born February 16, 1932 in Westminster, VT the daughter of Camille and Hazel (Morris) Raymond. She received her schooling in Windsor and graduated from Windsor High School in 1949. She received her Bachelor of Education Degree from Castleton State College in 1953. She married James B. Bennett in Windsor in 1954. Mrs. Bennett taught at State Street School in Windsor for many years until her retirement in 1993.
She enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and spending time on the Connecticut River. She was an avid reader as well as an avid fan of the Boston Celtics, Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and many friends.
Mr. Bennett passed away September 27, 2010. She was also predeceased by one daughter, Koreen Bennett on September 9, 1982.
Survivors include two sons, James B. Bennett, Jr. of Windsor, John M. Bennett and his wife, Susan of New Boston, NH, one daughter, Kristi Veverka and her husband, Kevin of Claremont, NH, seven grandchildren, Justin and Joshua Veverka, Lyndsey Bennett, Kelsey Bennett, Sara Bennett, Alicia Bennett, and Samuel Bennett, one great grandson, Aidan Veverka.
At her request the will be no formal funeral services. Family and friends are invited to an open house to be held Saturday, February 26, at the family home on North Main Street in Windsor beginning at 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM. Committal services will be held at a later date in the St. Francis Cemetery in Windsor.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Windsor Recreation Center at PO Box 47, Windsor, VT 05089. The Knight Funeral Home in Windsor assisted with the arrangements.
