Brewster, NY – Martin P. Hodgeman, 90, died Monday November 16, 2020 at Putnam Ridge Nursing Home in Brewster, NY.
He was born March 16, 1930 in Providence, RI, a son of Byron and Marian (Peck) Hodgeman, Martin attended Zion Bible Institute where he met Gertrude Gendron. They were married July 15, 1950 and settled in Weathersfield, VT where he pastored the East Congregational Church. They served the ministry throughout New England and New York. When Martin retired from the ministry in 1967, they moved to Hopewell Jct., NY. He was employed by Texaco Research in Beacon, NY as a research technician.
Following their retirement, they moved to Brownsville, VT and were active in the Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Windsor. In 2000 they moved to Sun City, FL where they lived until Mrs. Hodgeman's death in 2013. In 2013 Martin went to live at Putnam Ridge Nursing Home in New York.
Martin had many interests and hobbies. He loved to hunt and fish. One of his favorite things to do at dusk in Vermont was to take a ride though the countryside and look for deer in the pastures. He mastered the sport of snowmobiling. Building and flying remote controlled model airplanes was another hobby of his.
Martin loved his family and spending time with them. He was known for his generosity, kindness and wonderful sense of humor. Martin was true servant of God and shared his faith in the way he lived his life. He was loved greatly by those who knew him.
He was predeceased by his wife, Gertrude; four brothers; and two sisters
Martin is survived by his four daughters, Cynthia Hodgeman of Brewster, NY, Kathryn Trudell of Pine Plains, NY, Pam Medla of Brewster, NY and Arlene LePage of Southington, Ct; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and two siblings, Priscilla Hodgeman of Providence, RI, Russell Hodgeman of Hopewell, Jct. NY.
Private family services will be held at the Trinity Free Evangelical Church in Windsor, VT with burial following in the Brownsville Cemetery.
