ASCUTNEY, VT
Marlon M. Wood, 76, a resident of Ascutney and formerly of Windsor, passed away Tuesday evening, March 2 at the Brookside Nursing Home in White River Jct., VT
He was born April 22, 1933 in South Pomfret, Vermont the son of Maurice and Lavina (Girard) Wood. He received his schooling in Woodstock and graduated from Woodstock High School in 1952. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He married Beatrice Colvin in Windsor on August 17, 1957. They have resided in the Windsor area for most of their married lives. He was employed as a machinist and later as a draftsman at the former Cone Automatic Machine Tool Company and more recently at the former Cone Blanchard Machine Tool Company in Windsor, until his retirement in 1980. He continued to work at area machine tool businesses for several years.
He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor and an avid supporter of the Windsor Athletic Programs, a member of the Windsor Area Jay-Cees, and the Windsor American Legion Post #25. He enjoyed skiing and was a member of area ski patrols, including at Mt. Tom and Suicide Six. He was a very active volunteer for the Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sport Program. He was an experienced ham radio operator, with his call sign KA1SMC. He also enjoyed camping and sailing. He volunteered for many Windsor area senior dinners, and was proud to have donated blood platelets at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Beatrice M. Wood of Ascutney, one daughter, Susan Brown and her husband Steve, of Ascutney, one son Anthony Wood and his wife, Dayna of Hartford, VT, five grandchildren, Stacy Brown, Shawn Brown and his wife Jessica, Nicholas Wood, Jordan Wood and Noah Wood, one great granddaughter, Abigail Brown, one sister Marlene Paul of Montpelier, VT and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor on Sunday evening, March 7 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, March 8 at 11:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor. The Rev. Rene Butler, M.S., Pastor will be the Celebrant. A reception for family and friends will follow in the church hall. Committal services will be held at a later date in the Riverside Cemetery in Woodstock.
