IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mark Steven
Devoid
November 26, 1956 – February 1, 2025
Mark Steven Devoid, age 68, passed away on February 1, 2025. Born on November 26, 1956, Mark was a beloved father, brother, son, and friend who touched the lives of many with his warmth, humor, and love of storytelling. His quick wit, much like the legendary Robin Williams, was a hallmark of his personality, and he found great joy in the stand-up comedy of Williams, often quoting his routines to bring laughter to those around him. Mark was also a proud and devoted born-again Christian, whose faith played a central role in his life. His strong belief in the love of God and the teachings of Christ guided him through all of life's challenges and brought him peace and comfort.
Mark was the son of the late Oliver W. Devoid (August 1928 – March 2012) and Priscilla D. Devoid, who, at 95, continues to inspire her family with her strength and resilience. He is survived by his sister, Susan Devoid (husband Chris Norful) and brother, Jeffrey Devoid.
Mark was a proud father to his four children: Raina Durrence (husband Marc Durrence and their children Logan and Liam), stepdaughter Kristie Devoid (mother to Declan and Kyriana), daughter Jennifer Devoid, and son Jeremiah Devoid (father to Hanna and Elana).
Mark was a lifelong learner with a passion for knowledge. A graduate of Champlain College in Burlington, VT, he earned an associate degree and spent his life immersing himself in books, both fiction and nonfiction. Mark loved libraries so much that he often joked he could live in one. His enthusiasm for reading was matched by his love of history and the joy he found in sharing random facts with anyone willing to listen.
A man of many talents, Mark was an avid drummer in his younger years, a skilled photographer, and an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting. While he dreamed of retiring to Tennessee to live out his days surrounded by the natural beauty he admired, he found peace in his Vermont home.
Mark proudly served his country with distinction. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on April 17, 1979, and served honorably until December 12, 1986. Later, he joined the Vermont Army National Guard, where he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant (E6). He served for over 15 years, earning the respect and admiration of his peers before his honorable discharge.
Mark's memory will live on through his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. His kindness, quick wit, and deep love for learning will continue to inspire those who loved him.
A celebration of Mark's life was held on Friday, February 7, 2025, at 11a.m. at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor, VT.
