Westminster, VT - In the early morning hours of November 29, 2014, Mark passed away peacefully after a long illness. Mark was visited and comforted by family members at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH before he passed. Mark was 61 years old and lived in Vermont.
Mark was born in Berwyn, IL on October 8, 1953. He grew up in Hinsdale, IL and was the third child of eleven, of Thomas and Daphne Beresky.
Mark spent the early part of his career as a master carpenter with his brother Chuck in Colorado Springs, CO where they built luxury homes under the name Beresky Construction and Heartwood Homes. Later, Mark helped found a non-profit organization called the Vermont Harm Reduction Coalition, and was the former co-executive director of the Opiate Dependence Resource Center in Brattleboro, Vermont. Mark spent many years trying to bring methadone treatment to Vermont and had testified before both Vermont Senate and House committees in support of a bill that would open up the treatment in the state. In addition, Mark was a self-taught computer genius and a past member of Mensa. He painted beautiful watercolors as a personal hobby.
Mark was preceded in death by his mother, Daphne Beresky; his brothers, Chuck and Cary; and his sisters, Barbara and Joanne.
He is survived by his son, Matthew Beresky; his father, Thomas Beresky; brothers, Peter and Paul; and sisters, Nancy, Marianne, Janice and Diane.
Mark will be interred at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside, IL during a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation in Mark's memory to: DH Palliative Care Program, c/o DH Office of Development, One Medical Center Drive, Lebanon, NH 03756-0001
