Marjorie L. Kennett

Windsor, VT – Marjorie L. Kennett, 84, died Thursday, July 14th at Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center in Windsor.

She was born November 9, 1926 in Sharon, VT a daughter of Elmer and Florence (Burditt) Raymond. Marjorie attended school in Sharon and graduated from South Royalton High School and later from Castleton Teachers College. She taught school at several one room school houses before her marriage to Byron A. Kennett in 1946. After their marriage they lived throughout the Upper Valley area as Byron worked on area farms, mostly around Claremont. After her children reached school age she began working outside the home, first at factories in Claremont and then for a number of years as a housekeeper at the Hanover Inn, until her retirement. Mr. and Mrs. Kennett moved to Windsor in 1980 where they spent the rest of their lives.

She was predeceased by her husband in 1992, her daughter Arlene Griffith in 2009 and two sisters Velma and Vera.

Marjorie enjoyed bird watching, fishing and travelling rural country roads around the state visiting old cemeteries with her daughter Arlene.

She is survived by five sons William Kennett and his lifetime companion Cathy Rock of Claremont, NH, Maurice Kennett and wife Lois of Plainfield, NH, Larry Kennett and wife Allison of Canaan, NH, Arnold Kennett and wife Tammy of Elizabethton, TN and Peter Kennett and wife Meg who are stationed overseas; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother Robert Raymond of Sharon and two sisters Shirley of Thompsonville, CT and Verna of Ohio. Additionally she had several half brothers, nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at the Vermont Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center, VT at a later date.
