HARTLAND, VT
Marjorie N. Cone, 89, a longtime resident of Hartland, passed away Thursday morning, February 23, at her home in Hartland surrounded by her family.
She was born October 3, 1922 in Hartland the daughter of George E. and Elizabeth (Webster) Nutting. She received her schooling in Hartland and Woodstock, VT, graduating from Woodstock Union High School in 1940. She received her B.S. degree in Home Economics from the University of Vermont in 1945 where she was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society and Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.
Marjorie married Warren M. Cone in Woodstock on August 1, 1945. They had resided in Hartland since 1977, following Admiral Cone's retirement from his thirty five year United States Navy career. She was a member of the Hartland First Congregational Church, the Ladies Benevolent Society, and the Hartland Nature Club. Mrs. Cone also enjoyed driving her grandchildren to Camp Billings, arranging dried flowers, gardening, golf, cross country skiing, and hiking in the woods. Her husband of sixty six years passed away on December 7, 2011.
Survivors include two sons, Dr. Stephen L. Cone and his wife, Dr. Theresa P. Cone of Hartland and Clayton, NJ and Jonathan E. Cone and his wife, Nancy D. Cone of Hartland and Larkspur, CO, six grandchildren, Amy Glidden and her husband, Ryan of Valrico, FL, Lisa Gaudet and her husband, John of Riverview, FL, Timothy Cone of Keene, NH, Meredith Cone of Portland, OR, Jessica Vollebregt and her husband, USMC Captain Jacobus Vollebregt of San Clemente, CA, and Marjorie Saur and her husband, Adam of South Jordan, UT, three great grandchildren, Mason Glidden, Addison Saur and Marianne Vollebregt, one sister, Dorothy Ambrose of Huntsville, AL, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 5 at 10:00 AM at the Hartland First Congregational Church with the Rev. Lucia Jackson, Pastor, officiating. Committal service for RADM and Mrs. Cone will follow at 11:00 AM in the Hartland Village Cemetery in Hartland.
