IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marilyn Theresa
Gasser
April 26, 1941 – February 2, 2022
Grantham, NH – Marilyn Theresa Gasser, 80, died peacefully at her home, with her family by her side, Tuesday evening, Feb. 1, 2022. Marilyn was born April 26, 1941, in Clifton, NJ, one of two daughters to the late, John and Margaret (Zavada) Vanecek.
Gifted and intelligent, Marilyn enjoyed school, graduating from Clifton High School and then Montclair State University where she received her bachelor's degree in education. She taught for a short time at Clifton High School and then later at schools in Toms River, NJ. She was married to Robert A. Gasser, a law student at Columbia University, on April 5, 1964, and they made their home in Toms River, NJ and later in Island Heights, NJ. They had two children, Robert and Jennifer. Marilyn earned her first Master's degree from Rutgers School of Library Sciences. Over the next several years she worked as a Reference Librarian at Princeton University and then with the Ocean County Library System in New Jersey. Her second Master's degree came from Dartmouth College. Shortly afterward, they purchased a home in Quechee, VT. Marilyn worked at the Dartmouth Art Library while Bob split his time between New Jersey and Vermont. After the children went off to college, Marilyn pursued an opportunity (offered by Christie's Auction House in New York) to go to the University of Glasgow in Scotland to study Decorative Arts. With the enthusiastic support of Bob, Marilyn moved to Scotland, receiving her degree a year later. Upon her return, she took a position at Christies Auction House in New York City, where she worked for the next several years. Over the years she made countless new friends and encountered many interesting people. Following her retirement and then shortly after Bob's retirement, they built their retirement home in Grantham, NH.
Marilyn enjoyed classical music, opera, ballet, travel (in particular Vienna) and gardening.
Marilyn is survived by her loving husband, Robert, daughter, Jennifer Lynn Gasser of Maynard, MA, son, Robert C. Gasser of Greenwich, CT, sister, Joan Adams of Toms River, NJ, and her beloved dog, Gatsby.
