Marilyn M. Colby

Wilder, VT – Marilyn M. Colby, 70, died Sunday July 17th at her home with her husband at her side.

She was born September 9, 1940 in Farmington, ME, the daughter of Glen and Belle (Tracy) Morse. Marilyn graduated from high school in Rochester, NH in 1958 and from Plymouth Teacher's College in 1962. She taught in Colchester, VT for several years before moving to the Upper Valley where she was a third grade teacher at the Mt. Lebanon School. On October 8, 1966 she married Donald Colby in Rochester, NH and continued teaching until the late 1960's when they began their family. Marilyn returned to teaching after her children were in school, this time as an aide in the Hartford School system, retiring in 1996.

She enjoyed scrapbooking, collecting coins and stamps, and going to Curves in Wilder where she proudly exceeded 700 visits. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and working in her gardens.

She is survived by her husband, Donald of Wilder, two sons James Colby and wife Melissa of Woodbury, CT and Douglas Colby and wife Krista of Southington, CT; four grandchildren Hannah, Aiden, Landon and Beckett; two step daughters Dawn Dechamps of West Haven, CT and Cheryl Duplessie of Round Rock, TX; a step son Michael Colby of Huntington, CT and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister Elizabeth O'Donnell.

A time of visitation will be held at the Wilder Center on Friday July 22nd from 9-11AM. This will be immediately followed by a memorial service and ensuing reception. Committal services will take place later in the day at the Riverside Cemetery in South Lunenburg, VT.
