Obituary

Windsor, VT - M. Marguerite Tetreault, age 85, died Thursday evening, September 27th, at DHMC in Lebanon, NH, from injuries she received after being hit by a car while getting her mail in Windsor, VT on Tuesday, September 25th. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Marguerite was born July 21st, 1933 in Newport, VT, the third child of seven, to Thomas and Laurette (Bouthellier) Tetreault. She was a student at Sacred Heart elementary and high school. Following graduation, she attended nurses' training and then went on to earn a certificate in cosmetology. She owned her a beauty shop in Orleans, VT.   She married John (Jack) M. Nyberg Jr. in 1959 in Newport Vermont; they had three children - Marguerite, Cassie, and John - and then moved to Quincy, MA, Florida, and eventually to Windsor, VT,  where they raised their family.   They divorced in 1978, and remained friends for the rest of her life.

Marguerite worked in the lab at DMHC, at the Windsor Library, as a nanny, and was a member on the Paradise Park Commission.  She also lived for a number of years in Connecticut where she had many wonderful  friendships and memories. 1992, when her daughter, Cassie, bought Bob's Barber Shop in Windsor, VT, Marguerite continued her barbering career alongside Cassie, often traveling to do haircuts for shut-ins around the community. Marguerite retired at age 80, sort of…  Marguerite had an insatiable curiosity about the world, especially the natural world. She loved hiking, walking, yoga, weightlifting , and kayaking or any outdoor activity. She enjoyed eating healthy and knew a lot about nutrition, harvesting from the wild, mycology, and gardening, and she shared this knowledge with family and friends. She had a lot of care and compassion for the environment and, as a member of many environmental conservancies, took a stand when she thought needed.    She loved to travel, especially with her sister, Tee, from Maine to Alaska and everywhere in between; they visited 30 National Parks in the US and Canada. Marguerite was a talented artist who created artwork in multiple mediums that mostly reflected the natural world and her Native American heritage; she also taught art to others.

She loved being around people, especially her family, close friends and helping those in need.

Although nature was her spirit, she was a committed member at the Old South Church  in Windsor, VT, where she often sat  with her good friend Pennie, and Weston Priory in Weston, VT.  She attended mass with the brothers at the Priory for years with her good friends Bun and Bon. Besides mass, she would often cut their hair and enjoy meals with them. Her sense of humor and beautiful smile stand out among her many endearing qualities. Her quick-witted remarks and sarcastic banter kept us all on our toes and smiling.

Politics…yea, just bring up the topic. She stayed engaged in current events and had vigorous discussions with others.    She was an avid reader and loved mysteries and anything about nature and Native Americans.    If there's one word that comes to mind when thinking of Marguerite, it would be VERMONTER.

~Marguerite lived a beautiful life because her focus was not placed on "things", as she found her greatest joy in the intangibles. ~

Marguerite is predeceased by her brother, Joseph Tetreault. She is survived by: her children: Marguerite Nyberg and partner Kelly Blake, Cassie George and her partner Chris Coxon, and John Nyberg III and his wife Susan; her grandchildren: Hannah George and husband Matt Guba, Justin George and wife Jessamyn, and Sam Nyberg-Blake; her great granddaughter: Saylor Emerson George; her future great-granddaughter; John (Jack) Nyberg Jr. and Christiane Zue; her sister Marie Reichelt and husband Bill; her brothers: Charles Tetreault and wife Linda, Thomas Tetreault and wife Anne, George Tetreault and wife Debbie, and John Tetreault and wife Prem; her brother Joe's partner Joan Polanshek; and many nieces and nephews.
