Hanover, NH - Marian Shaw Nord, died on Sunday, June 19th at her home in Hanover, NH. She was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas on November 26, 1924, the daughter of Frank and Vera (Parham) Shaw. After high school, she began nurses training at Washington University in St. Louis, simultaneously enrolling in the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corp. She graduated in 1946, and was married in July of that year to Bruce Nord, who had just completed five years' service in the U.S. Navy.
In 1950, Marian and Bruce moved to the New Jersey Shore, where she raised four children, sailed, and participated in various school, church, and charity organizations. After her 1971 divorce, she lived for a while in Dallas and in Mountain Home, Arkansas before moving to the Upper Connecticut River Valley to be near her adult children. Marian worked at Ward's Department Store in Hanover and at Alice Peck Day Hospital in Lebanon before moving to Manchester, where she worked as a dental assistant for almost 20 years.
After retiring in 1999, she returned to Hanover. She enjoyed breakfast at Isabell's, lunching at Lou's and Shyrl's, watching golf, reading historical fiction, and scouting the local tag sales for bargains and "found art." She cultivated an off-center sense of humor, which she enjoyed with her family and friends. Marian is survived by her four children: Jessie, Peter, Christopher, and Mitchell, by Mitch's wife Karen, and by her grandsons Shawn and Wesley.
A memorial event is being planned for a later date. The Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct., VT assisted with arrangements.
