Marian K. "Dolly" Donnelly, 98, a resident of Reading and formerly of Oyster Bay Cove, Long Island, passed away Tuesday afternoon, August 4, at her home in Reading.
She was born July 19, 1917 in Hazleton, PA the daughter of George and Helen (Lane) Kinsley. She was raised in Hazleton and moved to Brooklyn, NY as a young lady. She graduated from St. Joseph's College for Women in New York City. She married Paul J. Donnelly, Jr. in Brooklyn in February of 1943. She was employed by the United States government serving on the Sugar Rationing Board. She greatly enjoyed raising her five children while also working as a substitute teacher at Oyster Bay High School on Long Island, NY.
Mrs. Donnelly was active in politics, becoming a Nassau County Democratic Committee Woman. The family moved to Long Island in 1955, where she became active in church and charitable affairs. Mr. and Mrs. Donnelly purchased their vacation home in Reading in 1985 and moved there permanently in 2006. Marian was an avid doll collector, and an enthusiast on fine antiques. She also had a passion for reading.
Mr. Donnelly passed away on September 26, 2013.
She was also predeceased by her parents and by two sons, John Donnelly in 2012 and Peter Donnelly in 2014.
Survivors include two sons, Paul Donnelly of New Fairfield, CT and James Donnelly of Reading, VT, one daughter, Mary Beth Donnelly of Scotchtown, VA, twelve grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a day and time to be announced at St. Dominic's Catholic Church in Oyster Bay, Long Island. A reception for family and friends will follow.
Committal services for Mr. and Mrs. Donnelly will be held in Hazleton, PA.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph's College at 245 Clinton Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11205.
