WINDSOR, VT
Marguerite H. Tewksbury, 97, a longtime resident of Windsor, passed away Friday evening, December 2 at the Cedar Hill Continuing Healthcare in Windsor.
She was born May 30, 1914 in Bethel, VT the daughter of Guy and Mary (Ward) Hatch. She was raise in Barnard by her paternal grandmother upon the sudden death of her mother. She received her schooling in Barnard and Bethel. She graduated from Bethel High School in 1932 and attended Castleton Teachers College. She married Olin R. Tewksbury in Bethel on July 22, 1934. She and her husband moved to Windsor in 1941, when Mrs. Tewksbury began her teaching career. She taught fourth grade at State Street School for the Windsor School District for twenty five years until her retirement in 1979. She was a longtime member of the Rachel S. Harlow United Methodist Church in Windsor. She volunteered at the Windsor Public Library for several years and for Volunteers in Action, where she drove persons to their appointments throughout the upper valley. She was an avid gardener, and was well known for her organic garden at her home in Windsor, where she sold vegetables from her "Tewksbury Garden" for over sixty years.
She was predeceased by one daughter, Patricia Tewksbury Bessel.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Ellen Tewksbury of Windsor, one son Ned R. Tewksbury and his wife Dianne of Colchester, CT, nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor on Tuesday evening, December 6, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning, December 7, at 11:00 AM at the Rachel S. Harlow United Methodist Church in Windsor with the Rev. Ken White, Pastor, officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow in the church hall. Committal services will be in the Gilead Cemetery in Bethel.
