Woods
May 24, 1944 – January 21, 2025
Margaret "Peggy" Lucile (Farman) Woods, 80, passed peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family, on Tuesday January 21, 2025.
Peggy was born on May 24, 1944, in Holyoke, MA, daughter of Robert Burton Farman and Helen Margaret (Magill) Farman. Peggy grew up in South Hadley, MA, where she was a cheerleader and Vice President of her class at South Hadley High School. Peggy attended the Holyoke Hospital School of Nursing and later Mt. Holyoke College, where she received a Bachelor of Arts. On June 26, 1966, she married Edmund Gill Woods, Jr. and in 1968 the couple moved to Holyoke, MA where they raised their family and made their home for the next fifty years. After retiring in 2017, Peggy and Gill moved to Quechee, VT where they have called home for the last eight years.
Peggy's devotion to her family and friends was at the heart of everything she did. She shared a loving partnership with her husband, Gill, and together they built a strong family, while operating a thriving real estate business. Working side by side, they created a legacy of trust and hard work while also cherishing the opportunities they had to travel, build friendships, and support one another's dreams.
Peggy was deeply proud of her children, grandchildren, and extended family, always celebrating their milestones and offering support and love. She also had a special place in her heart for her four-legged children, most recently her beloved Airedale, Topper, who was her loyal companion and brought her endless joy.
Peggy's life was defined by her unwavering belief in the importance of giving back to the communities she called home. To her, volunteering was never an obligation but a cherished opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Whether leading initiatives, serving on boards, or simply offering her time and talents, Peggy approached her work with boundless energy, a clear sense of purpose, and a genuine desire to leave a lasting impact. Described as a "Force of Nature," Peggy's dedication and leadership benefitted many charities and organizations including the Junior League of Holyoke, the Association of Junior League International, Holyoke Rotary Club, Greater Holyoke Chamber of Commerce, Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts, Mt. Tom Ski Area, Village Commons Trust, City Stage/Symphony Hall, Holyoke Hospital Aid Association, Holyoke Economic Development and Industrial Corporation, United Way, Mt. Holyoke Alumni Association, Children's Hospital of Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and QLLA Charities. Through her involvement with these organizations, Peggy formed deep and enduring friendships that enriched her life and exemplified her commitment to fostering connection, community, and charity. Peggy's outstanding service and contributions were recognized with numerous honors, including Holyoke Rotary Club's Paul Harris Fellowship Award and the William G. Dwight Award for Distinguished Service in the Holyoke Community.
Peggy is survived by her husband of sixty years, Gill, of Quechee; sons E.G.
