Obituary

Margaret L. Wells of West Lebanon, N.H., died on September 30, 2010, after a long illness.

She was born on January 18, 1949, in Hanover, N.H., to her goodly parents Robert Clifford and Jenny Mae (Kendall) Wells. She attended Lebanon High School, where she was a star athlete, a scoring champion in basketball, and a star pitcher in softball. A devoted Red Sox and Patriots fan, Maggie rejoiced with the triumphs and laughed at the follies of her favorite teams. As an avid sports fan she also contributed to the United States Olympic Committee.

Maggie worked for the Hartford Insurance Company in Connecticut before returning to West Lebanon in the mid 1990s to care for her ailing father. She worked for Computac as a programmer. Maggie's immense ability, keen intellect, and loving spirit earned her the respect of those with whom she interacted.

She gave generously to charitable organizations, especially environmental causes, including the Center for Coastal Studies in Provincetown, Mass., and the Sierra Club. Maggie was instrumental in funding the start of Lebanon High School's recycling program.

Preceded in death by her parents, Maggie is survived by her loving siblings Richard Wells of New York City, and Carolyn Furbish residing in West Lebanon. Maggie is also survived by her nephews Shawn Furbish of Canaan, and Jeremy Furbish residing in Salt Lake City, Utah; five beautiful grand-nieces; and many friends. She lived life in her own way, quietly helping those around her, never seeking accolades. She served with diligence, compassion, and determination when necessary. We, those that survive her, will remember all she taught us, and do our best to honor her memory by being a little more like her.

Friends may call Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010, at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction, Vt., from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at the West Lebanon Congregational Church Monday, Oct. 4, 2010, at 11 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of Norris Cotton Cancer Center, 1 Medical Center Drive, Lebanon, N.H., 03756.
