IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Margaret A.
Spaulding
January 12, 1947 – March 28, 2024
Ascutney, VT – Margaret A. Spaulding, 77, died on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. Margaret was born in Springfield, VT on January 12, 1947, to parents Robert S. and Carrie (Allen) Smith.
She grew up in Amsden, VT and graduated from Springfield High School in 1965. A little less than a year later she married the love of her life, Robert L. Spaulding, on March 19, 1966, in Windsor after being introduced at a square dance. While they began their married life at an apartment in Windsor, they soon moved to Ascutney and over the past five decades plus have worked to make it into the perfect place to call home. Together they explored the countryside from Robert's motorcycles and found great peace and community at the Bow Baptist Church in Weathersfield.
Every summer for all of their married life, Margaret ensured that they camped. A lot. First in tents at state parks across Vermont, but once she found Horse Shoe Acres in Andover, she proclaimed it home away from home. After a few years, they purchased a camper that stayed there year-round and they spent summers at camp. She loved having the grandchildren there for weeks at a time each summer and they'd swim and play mini golf.
The two also traveled extensively by bus tour across the US and traveled abroad to Bermuda and an especially memorable 2-week exploration of Scotland. At home, she enjoyed holding yard sales, sewing, and assembling puzzles when she couldn't be on the move having adventures.
She is survived by her husband Robert L. Spaulding of Ascutney; daughter Midge Page of Ascutney; brother Alfred Smith and wife Anne of Springfield, VT; two grandchildren Hayden Stewart and Ryan Page; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Freida O. Leneau, and her lifelong best friend Donna Perham.
Calling hours were held on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, from 4 until 6pm at Knight Funeral Home, Windsor, VT and a funeral service was held at 1pm on Friday, April 19, at Bow Baptist Church in Weathersfield, VT.
Burial will take place in the Ascutneyville Cemetery at 3pm on Saturday, June 15th, 2024. Memorial donations are appreciated to Bow Baptist Church.
