ASCUTNEY, VT
Marcia W. Farmer, 86, a longtime resident of Ascutney, passed away early Thursday morning, July 21, in the comfort of her home in Ascutney. She was born July 16, 1930 in Hampton, NY the daughter of Harold and Dorothy (Douglas) Whitaker.
She was raised in Newfane, VT and graduated from Brattleboro High School. She was the first woman to graduate from Vermont Technical College in Randolph Center, VT earning her Associates Degree. She married Samuel F. Farmer in Newfane in 1963 and they moved to Ascutney. Marcia was employed as an X-Ray Technician at Brattleboro Hospital, Mount Ascutney Hospital, and Springfield Hospital. She retired from Mt. Ascutney Hospital in Windsor in 1999.
Marcia was an avid horseback rider and was a member of the Hartland Riding Club and the Blue Mountain Riding Club in Windsor, VT. She loved outside activities including snowmobiling, skiing, fishing, and gardening. Her favorite thing was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was an avid Boston Sports fan, supporting the Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics, and Bruins.
Her husband passed away in 1982. She was also predeceased by her parents, and one brother, John Whitaker.
Survivors include her beloved daughter, Catherine Henault and her husband, Peter of Perkinsville, one stepson, David Farmer and his wife Shelley of Anchorage, AK, two grandchildren, Sam Rosen of Lyndonville, VT and Megan Rosen of Lebanon, NH, two step grandchildren, Brianna Henault of Wilder, VT and Jonathan Henault of Perkinsville, one great grandson, David Rosen of Lyndonville, one brother, Raymond Whitaker and his wife, Betty of Panton, VT and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 26, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor. The funeral service will be on Wednesday at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Lance Harlow, officiating. Committal services will be held in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Newfane, VT at 2:00 PM
