Obituary

Windsor, Vermont – Mage Alfred "Sonny" Lyford, 82, died early Saturday morning, April 25, 2015 at Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center in Windsor, VT. He was born the youngest of six children, June 1, 1932 in Chelsea, VT the son of George and Mary (Goulette) Lyford. He attended school in Chelsea and went to work at an early age helping on the farm and doing light carpentry work. He self studied to become a Master Plumber and Journeyman Electrician. He worked for Bob Leonard Plumbing & Heating and then later for Rupert Leonard Plumbing and Heating. For a short time he also worked for Harold Fisher. After that he was self employed until retiring due to poor health.

Sonny married Ann French July 12, 1951 in Hartford, VT. They moved to Woodstock, VT where he built their family home and raised their five children. They lived in Woodstock for over fifty years. Mrs. Lyford died February 27, 2002. Mage has lived at Willows of Windsor for the past nine years.

He enjoyed going for rides on country roads, vacations in the summer to Lake Champlain and the Maine coast. He also loved to hunt, fish, play cards and bingo, feed the birds and take care of his gardens. Sonny loved music, playing pool and watching the Red Sox. He had a passion for building and repairing clocks and also enjoyed attending fairs and antique car shows. Most of all his greatest enjoyment was found spending time with his children and family. He absolutely loved his five children.

He was predeceased by his wife, two brothers, George and Charles, and his sister, Yvonne Goulette.

He is survived by two sons, Brian M. Lyford his companion Judy Morse, of West Lebanon, NH, Steven Lyford his wife June, of Storrs, CT, three daughters, Carol Rogenski of Chester., VT, Laura Black of Green Bay, WI, Nancy L. Adams her companion Chris Wells of Plainfield, VT, eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, two sisters, Marion Simonds of West Hartford, VT, Anna Mattoon of Kodak, TN as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 2, at 3PM at the North Pomfret Congregational Church, 7767 Pomfret Road in North Pomfret, VT with the Pastor Chris Heintz officiating.
