Madeline Gladys Groh

Norwich, VT – Madeline Gladys Groh, 93, died Wednesday June 12, 2013 at home with her loving family surrounding her.

She was born September 27, 1919 in Quechee, VT a daughter of Alfred and Grace (Darling) Moore. Madeline attended school in Quechee and graduated from Hartford High School Class of 1938. She later completed her nurse's training at Presbyterian Hospital in Newark, NJ. During World War II, Madeline drove Motor Corps for the Red Cross, transporting wounded soldiers between NJ and New York City. She worked as a nurse at Presbyterian and later at Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ and then at Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown, NJ before retiring in 1978.

Madeline was married to Oliver Groh, November 11, 1977 in Chatham, NJ where she had lived for many years; together they moved to Basking Ridge where they lived for several years before moving to Norwich, VT in 2000.

Madeline was a former member of the Chatham United Methodist Church where she was active in the RISE program in Hornel, NY helping to repair underprivileged people's homes. Upon moving to Vermont the Groh's became members of the White River Junction United Methodist Church. She was very involved in the Hartford Alumni Association and also enjoyed gardening and sewing.

Madeline was predeceased by her son Craig Martin Pinter, a brother Arthur Grace and a sister Dorothy Hayes.

She is survived by her husband of over 35 years, Oliver, a daughter Dale Ross of Wharton, NJ; two step daughters: Joan Groh of Bayville, NJ and Carol Groh-Viscione of Somerset, NJ; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, a brother George Thomas of Sarasota, FL and a sister Carol Spear of Hilliard, FL.

A memorial service will be held at the White River Jct. United Methodist Church Saturday June 22nd at 1PM. Committal will follow in the Moore family plot in the Hilltop Cemetery in Quechee.
