White River Junction, VT – Lynne A. Smith, 69, died on Monday, April 13, 2026 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.
Lynne was born on June 9, 1956, in Patterson, NJ, to George and Ruth (Dittmare) Gielen. She grew up in Pittsford, VT, and graduated from Otter Valley High School in 1974. She later attended Green Mountain College. After moving to Lebanon, NH, Lynne worked at Lebanon Center Genesis Health and Rehabilitation. In 2000, she married Jesse D. Smith, and they made their home in White River Junction. In 2011, Lynne took a position at Brookside Nursing Home in White River Junction, followed by roles at Woodstock Terrace and Mertens House in Woodstock. She retired in 2017.
Lynne enjoyed sewing and working with her hands, spending time with her dog and companion Bella, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her beloved grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by a brother George Gielen and a stepson Jesse Smith, Jr.. Lynne is survived by her husband, Jesse Smith of White River Junction; a daughter, Laura Fyfe of Somersworth, NH; three sons, David Wills of Springfield, NH, Sean Merrihew of White River Junction, and Kurt Smith of White River Junction; five grandchildren Lennox, Logan, Daylynn, Timothy, and Elliott; two step-daughters, Jessica and Erica Smith; sister-in-law, Susan Gielen of Loudon, NH; five step grandchildren Travis, Elliott, Olivia Ava, and Austin; step-great-grandchild, Angelina and a former husband, Timothy Merrihew.
A visitation will be held on Monday, April 20 from 4-6pm at Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction. A graveside service will be held at 3pm Saturday May 2 at Christian Street Cemetery in Wilder. Condolences may be expressed in an online guestbook at www.knightfuneralhomes.com.
