Cornish, NH – Lynda Doreen Downing, 68, died Saturday September 18, 2010 at her home in Cornish, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born June 22, 1942 in Newport, VT a daughter of Porter and Reba (Lumbra) Hodgdon. She attended school in Barton, VT and graduated from Windsor High School Class of 1960. She was married to Martin Downing Jr. April 28, 1962 in Claremont, NH. Lynda was employed at Hodgdon Brothers in Ascutney for almost thirty years and most recently worked with Sullivan County Development Services in Claremont until retiring.

She was a member of the United Church of Cornish and was very involved with her children's activities as they grew up in Cornish including the PTA, as a Den Mother of the Cub Scouts, and volunteering at the Cornish Elementary School for several years. Lynda loved people and spending time with them visiting and catching up on the events of their lives. She especially loved her time spent with family. She also enjoyed camping and playing cards.

She was predeceased by her husband in 1994 and an infant daughter, Marsha, in 1963 a brother and two sisters.

She is survived by three sons Martin M. Downing III, Robert E. "Soupy" Downing and Daryle A. Downing; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; four brothers; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held at the United Church of Cornish with the Rev. Dale Nicholas officiating on Wednesday September 22nd at 3PM. In accordance with Lynda's wishes please feel free to wear brightly colored clothing to celebrate her life. Please consider bringing a pen to her service to add to her large collection. Burial will follow in the Comings Cemetery in Cornish.
