WINDSOR, VT
Lyle I. Hammond, 89, a longtime resident of Windsor, passed away suddenly Friday, September 24, at his home in Windsor.
He was born January 10, 1921 in West Windsor, VT the son of Luther J. and Sarah (Robinson) Hammond. He received his schooling in Windsor and graduated from Windsor High School in 1939. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in World War II with the 79th Infantry Division and received the Purple Heart for injuries he received. Following his honorable discharge he married Beatrice Laythe in Claremont, NH on August 2, 1947. He was employed at the former Cone Blanchard Machine Company in Windsor for forty three years until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of the DAV Chapter #1 in Windsor. He was longtime member of the John P. Larkin Country Club and the Old South Congregational Church in Windsor. Mrs. Hammond passed away on October 16, 1998. He was also predeceased by one daughter, Susan Baptista.
Survivors include one daughter, Sandra Bugbee and her husband, Richard of Unity, NH, one son-in-law, Jesse Baptista of California, five grandchildren; Sherrie LaClair of Claremont, NH, Michele Bugbee of Claremont, NH, Rick Bugbee of Unity, NH, Allen Bugbee of Charlestown, NH and Peter Baptista of California, three great grandchildren, Amber Brusco of Claremont, NH, Shelby Pillsbury of Claremont, NH and Kassi Bugbee of Charlestown, NH, two great great grandchildren, Erik Brusco and Shawna Brusco of Claremont, NH, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday, October 2 from 2:00 to 3:00 PM. The funeral service will begin at 3:00 PM with the Rev. Amanda Lape-Freeberg, Pastor of the Old South Congregational Church in Windsor, officiating. Committal services with military honors will follow in the Brownsville Cemetery in West Windsor.
