Obituary

WINDSOR, VT
Luther C. Kent, 83, a longtime resident of Windsor, passed away Wednesday, August 3, at the Mt. Ascutney Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility in Windsor.
He was born May 10, 1928 in Bristol, Vermont the son of Clifford E. and Marjorie A. (Guinan) Kent. He received his schooling in Bristol and Windsor, and graduated from Windsor High School in 1946. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving from 1946 to 1948 and again during the Korean Conflict from 1950 until 1952. He married Mary Dunbar in Windsor on November 10, 1949. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to Windsor and began working for L.A. Smith Plumbing and Heating from 1953 until 1963, when he purchased the business and operated it as Kent's Plumbing and Heating until his retirement in 1993.
Luther was a life member of the Windsor American Legion Post #25, a member and past Master of the Vermont Masonic Lodge #18 in Windsor, the Windsor Rotary Club, the Windsor Coon Club, the John P. Larkin Country Club, and a member and past president of the Master Plumbers Association and in 1989 was elected contractor of the year by the Master Plumber's Association.
He served as a member of the Windsor Volunteer Fire Department for ten years, and a member of the Windsor Select Board for several years. He was also a member of the Rachel S. Harlow United Methodist Church in Windsor where he served on the Board of Trustees.
Luther enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, golfing, and snowmobiling. He was fond of spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one sister, Marilyn Companion.
Survivors include his wife, Mary D. Kent of Windsor, one daughter, Karen Walker and her husband, David, of Hartland, one son, Kevin Kent and his wife, Lori of Claremont, NH, two granddaughters, Season Smith of West Swanzey, NH and Amanda Walker of Hartland, two great grandchildren, Owen Sprague of Hartland and Kennedy Lyn Smith of West Swanzey, several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Rachel S. Harlow United Methodist Church in Windsor on Saturday, August 27 from 11:00 to 12:00 PM. A Masonic service will be offered by the Windsor Masonic Lodge at 12:00 with the funeral following. The Rev. Ken White, Pastor, will officiate. Committal services with military honors will follow in the Ascutney Cemetery in Windsor. A reception for family and friends will follow back at the church hall.
