WINDSOR, VT
Lucy A. Blanchard, 89, a longtime resident of Windsor, passed away Monday evening, February 20 at the Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center in Windsor.
She was born November 5, 1922 in Gordonvale, North Queensland, Australia the daughter of Thomas and Teresa (Leonard) Egan. She received her schooling in Australia. Following her graduation from high school she was employed at a department store in Cairns for two years.
She married Philip L. Blanchard in Sydney, Australia on December 22, 1944 and moved to Windsor in June of 1946. She became a United States citizen on December 1, 1953. Mrs. Blanchard was active in the Windsor community for many years; working as a census taker in 1960, desk clerk at the former Windsor House Hotel, Co-treasurer for the PTA with her husband, Treasurer of the Windsor Public Library, Assistant Treasurer at the former AMCO Credit Union for twenty five years, Aide at Red Cross blood drawings, volunteer at the Mt. Ascutney Hospital Gift Shop, and an assistant Brownie Leader.
Lucy enjoyed playing bridge, flowers and doing crossword puzzles.
Her husband passed away on January 9, 1994. She was also predeceased by three brothers and two sisters and by her son-in-law, Joseph Motroni.
Survivors include, two daughters, Christine Motroni of North Weymouth, MA and Karen Blanchard of Windsor, one granddaughter, Kate Elizabeth Penney, one grandson, Josh Egan Motroni, six great grandchildren, Sophia, Laura, Julianna and Sabrina Penney and Joseph and Grace Motroni, one sister Teresa Ogston of Rockingham, Australia, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
At her request there will be no visiting hours.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, February 25, at 11:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor. The Rev. Raphael Nyabenda, Pastor will be the Celebrant. Committal services will be in the Ascutney Cemetery in Windsor in the spring.
