Lucien M. Guay, 85, died Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at the New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton, NH.
He was born November 20, 1927 in Laconia, NH, a son of Maurice J. and Alma (Dumas) Guay. He attended the Laconia Schools and later served his country during WWII in the US Army. Upon his return he attended the New England Barber School in Boston, MA completing his education in 1948. On July 4, 1951 he was married to the love of his Life Barbara Decoff in Laconia, where they lived and he worked as a barber. They moved to the Upper Valley and he went to work as a barber in Hanover, NH and White River Junction, VT. In 1955 Lucien purchased the Barber Shop next to the Polka Dot in White River Junction where he not only cut hair but shared stories with every haircut, until he retired and sold the shop in 1985.
Lucien was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2571 and The Knights of Columbus American Legion Post #26 all in White River Junction. He enjoyed working with his hands on woodworking projects, building gadgets or working the soil in his gardens
He is predeceased by his wife Barbara Guay, and two brothers Norman B Guay and Walter W. Guay.
He is survived by three daughters Colleen B. Young of New Port Riche, FL, Pauline Cote of Barrington, NH and Kathie A. Batson of Ledyard, CT; six grandchildren: Christopher Cote, Katie Lewis, Heidi Evans, Kari Mock, Kali Batson, Kourtney Batson,: and five great-grandchildren: Brandon Lewis, Sarah Lewis, Thomas Cote, Isabella Evans and Ryan Douglas Lewis.
Visiting hours will be held Thursday, January 17 from 2-4PM and 6-8PM at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, Friday at Sacred Heart Church in Lebanon, NH at 11AM followed by burial in the West Lebanon Cemetery in West Lebanon, NH.
